Diagnosing & Treating Sick Fish

FAQ

**Does this product help treat popeye?**

If you catch popeye in its early stages, you can use API E.M. ERYTHROMYCIN for effective treatment. Some signs to look for include protruding or cloudy eyes, either in one eye or both. If you notice any of these symptoms, dose immediately.

**Is this ok to use as a preventative if one fish is sick in a tank with other seemingly healthy fish?**

API E.M. ERYTHROMYCIN can help prevent a secondary bacterial infection when used with API SUPER ICK CURE. If one fish is sick in an otherwise healthy community of fish, you should separate the diseased fish from the others and keep in a quarantine tank until the sick fish exhibits signs of recovery.

**Should I keep the bio bag cartridge out of the filter until treatment with API E.M. ERYTHROMYCIN is finished, or should I only take it out for a few minutes before treating the water for fungus?**

It’s recommended that you leave the carbon or filter cartridge out of the filter for at least 24 hours for aeration. Products that are designed to remove things from your aquarium, such as filter media, will also remove dosed medication from your tank. For best results from medication, remove your filtration media as you dose.

**I have a 5 gallon tank. How much API E.M. ERYTHROMYCIN should I use in my aquarium?**

We recommend using half the packet of API E.M. ERYTHROMYCIN for a 5 gallon tank, and then adding the other half of the packet after 24 hours.

**Can API E.M. ERYHTROMYCIN be used with fungus cure? I’m on my last round, but my fish still has white rods around its gills. All other lesions have cleared.**

API E.M. ERYTHROMYCIN is safe for use alongside other API® products. API medications may be used in conjunction with each other safely, as long as both sets of directions for separate medications may be followed exactly. We would not recommend using more than two medications at a time unless you are certain of the diagnosis of multiple ailments, so that you can tell which medications are working or not working while troubleshooting a stubborn disease issue.

**Can I use API E.M. ERYTHROMYCIN to treat any species of fish?**

This API E.M. ERYTHROMYCIN may be safely used to treat all types of fish, with the dosage adjusted accordingly based on the gallons per aquarium.

**Do I have to remove my bio-bag cartridge from the filter before using API E.M. ERYTHROMYCIN, or can I use it with working filtration?**

It’s recommended that you remove any activated carbon or filter cartridges before adding API E.M. ERYTHROMYCIN to your tank to ensure maximum potency of the medication.
